Ploughshares 2021 Emerging Writer’s Contest

Eligibility Criteria
You are eligible if you:
- Someone who is yet to publish a book; be it ebooks, books in any languages, self published, poetry chapbook and translations.
- Who Have no book yet to publish before April 15, 2022.
- One who is not affiliated with Emerson College or with Ploughshares In any form. Be it as intern, student, staff or volunteer.
- One who Will not have a relationship with Emerson before April 15, 2022.
CATEGORIES
The competition is open in three different categories:
• Fiction (under 6,000 words);
• Nonfiction (under 6,000 words);
• Poetry (3-5 pages).
NOTE:
- The Submitted work must be original and not previously unpublished in any form or platform. And must be in the order of the listed categories. For more information about the past winners of the contest click here.
- Submit one entry per year via our online submission manager.
- All entry submission done through email or mail will not be considered
- No revision after submission of manuscript
- international submissions are welcome
- Cover letters are not necessary
- Remove all identifying information from your submission.

- Kiley Reid (Fiction),
- Paige Lewis (Poetry) and
- Paul Lisicky (Nonfiction).
Entry fee
The Emerging writers content entry is free for all current Subscribers of the Winter 2021-2022 issue while Non Subscribers will pay $24 fee. The fee includes a 1-year subscription to all ploughshares readings beginning from Spring 2021 issues and ending with winter 2021.
Prizes
The winning story, essay, and poems will be published in the Winter 2020-21 issue of Ploughshares. The winner receives a Publication award, $2,000, review from Aevitas Creative Management, and a one year subscription for one winner in each of the three genres.
The Emerging Writer’s Contest submissions will be done through submission manager.
